Hangzhou Wangjiang New Town Residential Project – Creating a Vibrant, Culturally Rich Community

Share

Located in the heart of Shangcheng District, Hangzhou, adjacent to Hangzhou Railway Station, this project spans a 93,000sqm site with a total built-up area of 450,000sqm, designated for residential, commercial, business, and cultural uses. Leigh & Orange, as the design architect for masterplanning and individual buildings, as well as the executive architect, embraces five key principles: creating a vibrant central district, establishing a TOD public transport community, integrating smart city concepts, implementing vertical greening and sponge city strategies, and fostering an art-focused lifestyle community rooted in culture, humanity, and nature. The aim is to shape the core of Hangzhou’s Wangjiang New City, blending the old with the new. The layout centres on a green axis, featuring thematic nodes such as Hangzhou City Station, a waterfront park, a sunken plaza, an urban cultural stage, a forest square, a Canal cultural street, and an art exhibition space.

The residential design theme is a garden-style international community. Elevated ground floors accommodate entrance lobbies and drop-off zones, while the basement mezzanine features a sunken garden cum parking area. Residences encircle courtyard gardens and an international clubhouse, all enjoying prime landscape views.

Sky bridges connect the three plots, with main entrances along Wangqing Road and Wangbei Road. The ten residential towers primarily offer mid-sized units, totalling 930 households.
