Advancing Net Zero Ideas Competition
Quarry Bay, Hong Kong, ChinaThe Advancing Net Zero Ideas Competition is the first-ever international competition in Hong Kong dedicated to advancing net-zero solutions in the building sector. This initiative aims to accelerate the transition of Hong Kong’s building industry towards a sustainable future, aligning with the HKSAR Government’s target of achieving carbon neutrality before 2050. The competition fosters innovative solutions tailored to the city’s unique subtropical, high-rise, high-density urban context.
The featured project is a commercial building located in Quarry Bay on Hong Kong Island. It comprises a 36-storey office tower atop an 8-storey co-working/co-living podium and a 1-storey basement. The strategy to achieve net-zero carbon focuses on maximizing carbon reduction at every stage of the building lifecycle, from planning and design to construction, operation, and maintenance. The key design features for this project are timber modular integrated construction (MiC) method, closed cavity façade (CCF), multi-tasking façade, optimised photovoltaic-integrated shading fins, automated parking system, organic vertical farm, sky garden, biophilic staircases, thermal buffer zone and column-free layout.
