Al Janadriyah Racecourse

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

L&O designed a new racecourse on the edge of Riyadh, sponsored by King Abdullah. Facilities include a 2,000-metre dirt track and a grandstand for 3,000 people. Also included is a separate stabling and training complex capable of accommodating 2,500 horses, with a state-of-the-art racing control centre, equine hospital, racing laboratory, administration block, quarters and a luxury clubhouse with the necessary infrastructure. The racecourse provides all the facilities for the successful operation of day and night racing. L&O worked with specialist advisers to develop the systems and facilities for racing control, video and television production and displays, racetrack lighting and maintenance. L&O assisted the client in developing protocols for activities such as doping control and a quarantine stable complex, and designed special features including a retractable glass wall in the grandstand that opens to allow an unobstructed view of the track from the royal stand. The Al Janadriyah Racecourse has helped bring a new level of professionalism to Saudi Arabian racing.
