Al Shaqab Equestrian Academy
Doha, QatarA centre of excellence designed in the shape of a horseshoe for the performance exhibit, training and breeding of Arabian horses. It includes an international standard equestrian performance arena that hosts both indoor and outdoor show-jumping and dressage events as well as a warm-up arena plus other facilities including a state-of-the-art veterinary centre, equine physiotherapy centre, laboratory, a racing museum and dedicated stabling for 400 horses. It also includes a separate facility to accommodate the herd of the Emirs’ show horses and a breeding centre for the Emir’s horses.
The introduction of back-to-back stands was a unique design feature that saved both space and cost and resulted in an integrated arena complex.
Services included master planning, architectural design, interior design and overall design team lead. L&O assisted in the development of the brief and master plan and led a team of 18 sub-consultants which divided the project into eight packages of work. This project is currently one of the largest show horse facilities in the world and will be a centre of excellence for the sport. On this project, all the project specialists and equestrian sub-consultants were employed by L&O.
