Guangzhou Medical University KingMed Building

The project is situated within the Panyu campus of Guangzhou Medical University. Originally utilized as a nursery garden, the site lies to the west of the first phase of the campus. Despite its irregular and elongated geometry, the site boasts a prime location at the intersection of phase one and phase two, aligning with the main arterial road to the east and overlooking the manmade lake in the centre.

From the outset, the design sought to capitalize on the distinctive geographical position and scenic resources. The goal was to create a new teaching block that would serve as a dynamic hub, seamlessly connecting the campus and fostering multidisciplinary interaction among students and faculty. The architectural concept embraces an open layout oriented toward the lake, with a forecourt strategically positioned for communal participation.

The ground floor is designed as a permeable, elevated space that welcomes movement and draws users to the upper-level teaching areas. At the heart of the building is a vertically layered system of open landscape platforms, interconnected by outdoor feature staircases. These elements establish a multi-dimensional environment, offering faculty and students a vibrant space for interaction, contemplation, and panoramic views of the campus.
