Hong Kong Jockey Club Shatin Racecourse
Shatin, Hong KongA modern international racecourse built in two major phases on 200acres of reclaimed land. The course has three tracks and associated training facilities, two grandstands to accommodate 80,000 people and its own transport interchange. The two multi-storey grandstands include racing support services, F&B outlets, racing centre, paddock and winner enclosure. Equine facilities include stabling and barns for 1,200 horses, equine pool, hospital and forensic laboratory. There are also training facilities a members clubhouse and staff accommodation.
Services included master planning, architectural design and interior design. L&O was the lead consultant for the design teams arranged for the various phases. The multiple facilities within the project required the management of 12 sub-consultants and procurements included traditional and management contracting methods. The latter phases had to be managed and constructed in a manner which allowed the racecourse to be in full operational use. The project included extrusive civil and structural works including sea walls and major site drainage and roadworks.
