Design and Construction of Joint-User Complex with Market in Area 67, Tseung Kwan O
Tseung Kwan O, HONG KONGThe new Joint-User Complex with Market is a “single site, multiple use” prototype building which accommodates a number of HKSAR governmental district offices, social & welfare facilities, and learning centres for the Tseung Kwan O community.
The building consists of 12 above-ground levels and 2 level basements with parking facilities, and features a 3-level market with 143 stalls. Accessibility is a key design consideration and therefore separate entrances are provided to ensure efficient means to the market, office and clinical facilities. The upper floors are designated for the local district offices and social services. The design is to become an inclusive and social hub for the neighbourhood with green terraces, outdoor seating and linked bridges to enhance the connectivity with surrounding buildings with 24-hour access in some areas.
An Urban Green Trail crosses various levels, contributing to a welcoming environment. The new complex will adopt the latest MIC (Modular integrated Construction) technology coupled with DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) principles to enhance building quality, improve site safety and reduce wastage and construction time. The project will tentatively aim for a “Platinum” BEAM Plus rating with diverse energy-saving features and renewable technology.
