Jolly Place
Tseung Kwan O, Hong KongA need was identified to provide comfortable homes for senior citizens who are socially and economically independent. This pilot project for Hong Kong Housing Society’s Senior Citizens Residences Scheme comprises a 27-storey tower containing 243 residential flats for senior citizens with integrated care and recreational facilities in a 5-storey podium with the upper level designed for outdoor leisure activities on an urban site. The podium garden includes a foot massage pebble path and fitness equipment. The building’s exterior reflects the colourful surroundings and blends in with the residential neighbourhood. The interior is user-friendly and provides a barrier-free design to accommodate disabled users. Thoughtful design considerations were incorporated into many senior-care features to enhance the environment and achieving sustainability, durability, operational and functional efficiency. Taking a radical departure from traditional skilled nursing homes and assisted living facilities, Jolly Place presents a quality lifestyle for senior citizens. The project was awarded a 2004 Quality Building Award in the residential category.
