Metro Line 5 Guniang Bridge Station Project

Hangzhou, China

Situated at the intersection of Rainbow Avenue and No.3 Provincial Highway in Hangzhou’s Xiaoshan District, the second Sky City is a joint venture between Hangzhou Metro and Vanke to establish a commercial and office core to energise the surrounding neighbourhood. This mixed-use development is connected to Metro No.5 Line’s Guniang Bridge Station via an underground tunnel. The site area is 6,697sm featuring a total construction area of 51,201sqm. A 22-storey tower provides 27,753sqm of office space, with another 23,220sqm of retail space distributed over four podium levels.

The brand-new transport hub adopts an innovative (cutting-edge is more for science and technology design) “park-TOD” model, integrating rail, office, commercial and residential zones seamlessly. The journey begins with its own commercial circulation as a focal point, linking the metro station to the west and the park to the east. This organisation creates a leisurely pathway that blends greenery with business activities, establishing a vertical connection to the underground spaces.

The design language is simple yet elegant, adopting a segmented approach to cut and combine the building volumes in an orderly manner. It highlights the harmonious relationship between the tower and podium volume through its façade design. The façade palette includes metal and acrylic panels that are skilfully arranged to create a new identity which reflects the urban character and vibrancy of the city.
