The North Lamma Public Library & Heritage and Cultural Showroom

Lamma Island, Hong Kong

The new landmark building at Yung Shue Wan and Lamma Island, the North Lamma Public Library & Heritage and Cultural Showroom was officially completed in June 2019.

The building has demolished for a new 3-storey building which houses the Yung Shue Wan Library on the upper floors, with the ground floor space dedicated to a Heritage and Cultural Showroom for Lamma Island. The North Lamma Public Library & Heritage and Cultural Showroom is one of the key architectural projects under the Signature Project Scheme (SPS) introduced by the Chief Executive in the 2013 Policy Address. L&O was commissioned by Home Affairs Department as the Lead Project and Design Consultant of the project in Year 2014 and construction commenced in early 2017.

The design concept of North Lamma Public Library cum Heritage and Cultural Showroom aims to exploit the site’s opportunity through maximizing its connection with the ocean both visually and physically as to create a vibrant indoor and outdoor public space for the locals and visitors. The new landmark building within its natural setting is a true microcosmic reflection of Lamma Island, a social and cultural hub where both locals and visitors can mingle and share their appreciation of the unique local culture, history, life style and knowledge.
