Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, City University of Hong Kong

Hong Kong

Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre is an academic building on the campus of the City University of Hong Kong, which was built in 2011. It is located on Tat Hong Avenue, Kowloon Tong, Kowloon, to the north of City University’s main campus.

The crystal-shaped building creates an inspiring environment for creativity with its use of an array of spaces rich in form, light and material. The facilities of this 25,000sqm building include a multi-purpose theatre, sound stage labs, classrooms, cafes and restaurants, numerous exhibition spaces, as well as fully landscaped gardens.

Sustainable Design Integration
This unique design capitalized on passive design approaches and simple construction methods to uplift its sustainability performance. The façade is made of concrete and limited number of punch hole windows contributing to lowest embodied energy. Retaining a vast expanse of the slope and replanting a large number of native plant species, it contributed to ecological balance of the site. Other energy and water efficient features have been integrated to enhance overall performance.
