Shenzhen Futian District Footbridge RenovationsShenzhen, China
The contemporary architectural facelifts of footbridges have brought a series of new and diverse activities into the city of Shenzhen, creating a sense of belonging among the local residents and connecting them with the surroundings. The bridges, located across the city near the two main arteries of Shennan Boulevard and Bin He Road, were closely studied for their “natural identity” in each of their respective surrounding context and environment.
The unique “personality” created for each bridge together conjures a new cityscape that reflects the multifaceted aspect of the urban context. For the Futian business district, the Futian Bridge is dressed with a curved skin and a high-tech looking structure that recalls the city’s evolution from the production epoch to the technological era. For the school district, Shang Bu Lu Tong De Bridge imitates the flight of seagulls to symbolise the free and active spirit of an emerging generation. For the vegetated surrounds with dense tress, the Xin Zhou Bridge and the Choi Tian Wan Jia Bridge echoe the same green with natural motifs.
